Facilities include a jacuzzi, birth bath, beautiful surroundings to walk in during labour, meals during and after labour and supervision of older siblings during labour.

This new birth unit offers women a natural and holistic approach to their pregnancy and birth.  With this unit being a stand alone, yet fully equipped for any emergency, it is the closest place that is a home away from home.

It offers tastefully decorated rooms with a stoep area to the outside, private toilet and shower and built in birth pool.  Each room has its own sound system and fully air-conditioned.

The clinic is midwife-led with back-up doctors always available.

This is an ideal venue for those wanting a natural birth or even a homebirth but don’t have the facility or space at home or are perhaps a little nervous to give birth at home and prefer the security of a hospital nearby.

The unit has two spacious birthing rooms with built in birth pools and enough room to move around in comfortably.

The birth unit is exclusively used by midwives and couples wanting natural birth.  If the birth should become high risk at any stage a transfer into the main labour ward would be necessary.

Mowbray Maternity Hospital Active Birth Unit

Cape Town, Western Cape

The birth unit at Mowbray Maternity Hospital has a number of warm spacious rooms, each with a double bed, big bath, soft lighting (with dimmers), CD player, air-conditioning and appropriately decorated to make it a homely environment.

This unit is used for mothers that prefer natural birth in a hospital setting with all the medical equipment available in case of an emergency.

The unit is used by midwives in private practice.
